The Amarillo City Council welcomed Mayor John Moore to City Hall on Tuesday.
Moore, a 17-year-old student, was named mayor for the day through the Junior Achievement BizTown program. The student was chosen by his peers to be mayor for the day and was recognized by Mayor Cole Stanley and the City Council for this honor on Tuesday.
During the City Council meeting, Moore was presented with a certificate commemorating the event and was also asked to call the meeting to order. Moore also brought a present of his own for Stanley — a picture he drew of the mayor.
While welcoming Moore to the chamber, Stanley did take time to joke about the honorary mayor’s age and the possibility that he might one day take his place at the center of the dais.
“I don’t have as many years as I thought before he's probably ready to take my my spot,” Stanley joked.
