In a short press release from the Republican Party of Texas, it was confirmed that the party intends for “all 161 Republican Delegates from Texas” to be awarded to Donald J. Trump at the national convention.
The announcement came in the wake of apparent “conflicts between Republican Party of Texas rules and Republican National Committee rules.”
Trump earned a large majority of votes in the state’s March 5th Republican primary, with 1,808,269 voters pulling the lever for the former president. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley came in a distant second place, with 405,472 votes, while the “uncommitted” option came in third place with 45,568 votes.
As of writing, Trump has secured nearly 2,000 delegates across the country, far more than the 1,215 needed to secure the nomination at the convention in July. Trump is set for a rematch against presumptive Democratic Party nominee President Joe Biden in November. Both the Libertarian and Green Party have ballot access in Texas, while independent candidates have until May 13th to submit petition signatures to be on the ballot. As we previously reported, independent Robert F Kennedy Jr’s campaign has been spotted collecting signatures in Amarillo. Alternatively, candidates have until July 20th to file to be a write-in. The general election is set for November 5th, 2024.
