Former President Donald Trump brought up his relationship with U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) during the first presidential debate of the general election cycle on Thursday night.
During the debate hosted by CNN, Trump mentioned his past relationship with Jackson, who served as the White House physician under the former president. The mention of Jackson came as Trump discussed his past cognitive tests, including one he took with Jackson when the now-Panhandle congressman was serving in the White House.
“I feel very good, I feel the same,” Trump said. “But I took, I was willing to take a cognitive test and, you know what? If I didn’t do well — I aced it. Dr. Ronny Jackson, who’s a great guy, when he was the White House doctor, and then I took another one — a similar one. And both — one of them said they had never seen anyone ace it.”
Trump’s mention of his cognitive tests came as he was challenging the mental acuity of President Joe Biden, which has been a recurring theme during this election.
Jackson made a post to social media after the mention, highlighting the same issue about Biden’s mental health condition.
“COGNITIVE TEST!! NOW!!,” Jackson wrote on Twitter.
