Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley is asking voters to give him two more years in the city’s top elected position.
Stanley made the announcement during a meeting of Conservative Patriots 4 Texas.
Stanley wasn’t the only mayoral candidate who attended the meeting. Jason Herrick, who has served as president of Amarillo Matters PAC and the RANGE Foundation, was also at the meeting.
During his speech, Stanley discussed the controversy surrounding the AEDC’s transfer of money to the RANGE Foundation, a scandal which has occupied much of local politics in recent months. Critics of the transfer, including Stanley, have noted that the $750,000 transfer was only budgeted for $100,000. However, others have argued that the response to the controversy from Amarillo City Council has been too harsh.
Stanley was first elected as Mayor of Amarillo in 2023 after having served a single term as the Place One member of Amarillo City Council. During his time in Place One, Stanley built a political brand as the council’s most fiscally conservative member.
The deadline to file for the city election ballot is Friday, February 14th. Election Day is May 3rd.
