Two more candidates have joined the open race for Amarillo City Council Place One, both seeking to be the one to replace outgoing councilman Josh Craft.

Tim Reid is a retired FBI agent who is perhaps best known in political circles for his 2022 bid to replace Kel Seliger in the state senate. Though Reid ultimately lost to Kevin Sparks, he has continued to engage in local politics. He officially made his return to the campaign trail earlier this week, filing on February 12th.

Leif Kertis is the owner of Floor Coverings International Texas Panhandle. Kertis has not been as active in local politics, though he has been active in local businesses. In addition to owning a flooring company, he is the COO/CFO of Kertis Sports and Entertainment Group and formerly served as business development and growth leader at ActionCOACH of West Texas. Kertis filed for the ballot on February 13th.

Reid and Kertis join Sherie Wood and Patrick Miller in the race for Place One. Incumbent Josh Craft has announced he does not intend to seek a second term. The deadline to file for the ballot is Friday, February 14th. Election Day is May 3rd.
