In a rare move, Potter County voters will see a contested race for a seat on the Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District Board of Directors this May.
Dan Rogers, the chairman of the Potter County Republican Party, filed last week to challenge incumbent Lee Peterson for the Precinct 9 seat on the PGCD Board. Rogers is the only candidate challenging Peterson.
The PGCD is a taxing entity with a presence in several Panhandle counties. It functions as something of a regulatory body, overseeing permitting for well drilling in the area.
Peterson was first elected to the board in 2021, defeating three opponents.
The election for this office will be decided on May 3rd.
