Congressman Ronny Jackson has endorsed incumbent Mayor Cole Stanley and incumbent Place 3 City Councilman Tom Scherlen for re-election. In addition, he has announced he is backing Tim Reid in the open race for City Council Place 1.
While Jackson has announced his picks for three of the five places on the City Council ballot, he did not make a pick for Place 2 or Place 4. In Place 2, incumbent Don Tipps is running unopposed. In the Place 4 race, incumbent Les Simpson is facing challenges from Sylvia Elaine Stephens and Leif Kertis. Of the two challengers, Kertis has perhaps mounted the more serious threat to Simpson. A major part of Kertis’ campaign has focused on the AEDC, an issue where Simpson has often found himself at odds with his fellow councilmembers.
Jackson did not elaborate on his reasons for his endorsements, which were announced in a Facebook post, nor did he elaborate on why he did not back any Place 2 or Place 4 candidates.
Early voting begins Tuesday, April 22nd, and ends April 29th. Election Day is Saturday, May 3rd.
