Officers are investigating an attempted gunpoint robbery that took place on Sunday, October 15th.
Amarillo Police are reporting that on Sunday afternoon, officers were dispatched to a personal robbery at 5611 Amarillo Boulevard East. The victim, a 51-year-old male, was walking from a business to his vehicle on the lot of the market when he was robbed at gunpoint. The victim was preparing to enter his vehicle when heard someone tell him to give him all of his jewelry.
The victim turned to see the suspect, a Hispanic male in his twenties, between 5'2" and 5'4". The suspect was wearing a light colored baseball cap and a gray t-shirt and handed the victim a bag in which to place the jewelry. The victim told the suspect that he would not take off his jewelry and the suspect threatened to shoot the victim if he placed his hands in his pockets.
During this incident, a witness drove up behind the victim and the suspect. The witness had stopped because he believed the two men planned to fight. When the witness realized that the incident was a robbery, he pulled his car forward and hit the suspect. The suspect fired one shot, hitting the drivers' door of the vehicle and then ran on foot.
The victim and witness were uninjured in the incident and the victim was able to keep his jewelry.
Officers have not located the suspect.
