Empower Texans Blasts Price Following Straus Departure

One statewide political action group is criticizing State Representative Four Price (R-Amarillo) as House members begin discussing who will replace the outgoing Joe Straus.

Empower Texans issued a statement today discussing State Speaker Joe Straus' retirement and who should replace the outgoing representative. The group named off several potential candidates and blasted State Representative Four Price, who has been floated as a potential successor to Straus.

"In recent years, Straus supporters have promoted State Rep. Four Price (R–Amarillo) as a possible 2019 successor," Empower Texans' Tony McDonald said in a statement. "With a liberal record and alleged ties between his and the Straus family, Price would certainly be a continuation of the current regime."

The group also criticized State Representative Todd Hunter (R–Corpus Christi) as a potential Straus replacement.

A successor for Straus will likely be named sometime before the House reconvenes in 2019.
