How to Run for County Office in 2018

A group of county offices are up for re-election in 2018 and candidates will begin filing tomorrow for places on the primary ballots of both major parties.

Candidates interested in filing for county and local offices (state representative, state senate) should print off an application from the Secretary of State's office (http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/index.shtml). After a prospective candidate fills out the application, they should turn in the application to their party's county chair, along with the filing fee or signatures in lieu of the fee, according to information from the Secretary of State's office.

Potter County Republican chairman Jim Lowder says that all applications should be filed with the county chair or the county chair's secretary. Prospective candidates should contact the county chairs to find out more information about filing applications.

Applications for a place on the primary ballots for the Republican and Democratic parties are due on December 11th.
