The Amarillo Police Department has arrested a suspect involved in a SWAT situation on Sunday night.
APD reports that on Sunday night, officers responded to the report of a man with a weapon in the the park in the 200 block of North Madison. When officers arrived, the suspect ran into his apartment in the 200 block of North Madison.
Witnesses said that the man had pointed a handgun at a man in the park, during the dispute. Officers later clarified that the man had pointed the handgun at people in the park and had refused to put it down.
Officers attempted to make contact with the man by loudspeaker, but he refused to leave the apartment. APD SWAT arrived on scene and the man was taken into custody about an hour and a half later.
The suspect has been identified as Ray Fields Jr., 50. Fields was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
