A suspect arrested on a robbery charge has been charged with an October robbery in a parking lot.
The Amarillo Police Department reports that on Halloween afternoon, officers were sent to a shots fired call at a parking lot in the 1600 block of North Apache. Responding officers found a witness detaining a suspect at gunpoint.
APD reports that later investigations indicated that the man being detained, Raul Holguin, 19, had tried to rob one of the three people that were in the car with him. The suspect pointed a gun at a female victim during the attempt and extended the handgun out of the parked vehicle’s window and fired one shot into the air. This drew the attention of the witness, who had a firearm and detained the suspect.
No one was injured.
As authorities took custody of Holguin, officers found what they believed to be methamphetamine in the vehicle and in Holguin's pocket. Officers also recovered a 9mm handgun and an expended cartridge casing from the vehicle.
APD Robbery Squad investigators later developed evidence that Holguin was a suspect in an October 17th robbery. The robbery had taken place in the parking lot of Best Buy.
Holguin was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for the robbery on North Apache and a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
On December 5th, the 47th District Attorney’s Office accepted a formal charge of aggravated robbery for the robbery in the Best Buy parking lot.
The Apache Street robbery that he was initially arrested for is still under investigation.
