Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Amarillo) has drawn a challenger in his bid for the Republican Party's nomination for U.S. Congress.
Jill Wolfskill has filed an application to challenge Thornberry, according to the Texas Secretary of State. Wolfskill, a resident of Bellville, was a late entry to the race, filing close to the deadline on Monday.
Wolfskill's entry into the race means that Thornberry will have his first contested primary race in four years. In 2014, Elaine Hays and veterinarian Pamela Barlow faced off with Thornberry, picking up 19 percent and 13 percent, respectively.
The winner of the primary battle between Wolfskill and Thornberry will meet the Democratic nominee in November. Greg Sagan, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, is the only candidate running for the Democratic nomination.
The primary election will be held on March 6th.
