Amarillo Attorney, Activist Jones Remembered

Local attorney Keith Jones passed away November 28th 2017. Keith was a good friend to all of those that knew him. Keith was born in Amarillo in 1947. He spent his early years in Amarillo. After the building boom following WWII, his father a local builder and developer decided to retire to the Big Laramie River Valley in Wyoming. After graduating high school, Keith decided to return to Amarillo to the place that he had fond memories of, and to attend college. He attended Amarillo College, and attended Baylor Law School to become an attorney.

Keith was involved in many different things and made friends everywhere. He was a political activist, an attorney, a music enthusiast, a auto enthusiast, and a historian. He was also a collector of vintage radios and electronics. He offered the use of his garage at home many times for garage concerts to showcase the talents of traveling musicians that were not very well known. He also led the fight to save the Liberty Theater downtown when the City of Amarillo was making plans to demolish it.

In his later years, Keith devoted much of his time to writing and documenting the history of the place that he had moved to from Amarillo at an early age. His book, The History of Jelm, Wyoming, was in his opinion his greatest contribution.

Keith will be sorely missed by all of his friends, and everyone that knew him. A memorial service will be held to honor Keith 7:00pm Thursday, December 21st at the Unitarian Universal Fellowship at 4901 Cornell.
