Red Light Cameras: One Amarillo Camera Sees Over 80 Percent Rejection of Citations

This is the second of an upcoming series of articles on red light cameras in Amarillo, Texas.

Several red light cameras in Amarillo have seen over 50 percent of their citations rejected, according to records obtained by the Amarillo Pioneer.

In records produced by the City of Amarillo, reports show that two cameras in Amarillo boast a rejection rate of over 53 percent for its citations. The camera at South Ross and Interstate 40 has a rejection rate of 53.78 percent for its citations and the camera at Amarillo Boulevard and Tascosa Road has a rejection rate of 53.04 percent.

However, the highest rejection rate for any Amarillo red light camera comes from the red light camera at Amarillo Boulevard and North Fillmore. Records show that, since 2014, 5,007 citations have been issued from that location and 83.36 percent of citations have been rejected.

Records also show that citywide, 150,339 citation events have been recorded by the cameras since January 1, 2014. Of those events, the City of Amarillo has only issued 76,325 citations and 48.86 percent of all citations issued have been rejected.
