"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" will be returning to Amarillo's big screen for its 40th anniversary, this week.
The film is returning to theaters nationwide and Amarillo will host the film during its anniversary run. The 1977 film, directed by Steven Spielberg, was nominated for several awards at the 50th Academy Awards and has been hailed as a classic of science fiction.
According to IMDb, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" stars Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, Teri Garr and Melinda Dillon and focuses on a line worker who is drawn to an area of the wilderness after an encounter with UFO's.
The UA Amarillo Star Stadium theater and the Cinemark Hollywood 16 theater will both be showing the film, at least through the upcoming week.
