One Arrested Following Memorial Day Wreck

One person was taken into custody following a wreck on early Monday morning.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were dispatched early Monday morning to the area of Southeast 10th Avenue and South Taylor on the report of a traffic accident. Johnny Sapien, 28, was driving his 2006 Nissan SUV eastbound at 10th and Taylor and struck the side of a Ford F150 pickup. The pickup was pulling a U-Haul trailer and was southbound on Taylor.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital, with one person having life-threatening injuries. Officers suspected Sapien of driving under the influence of alcohol and Sapien was transported to a local hospital, where he consented to a blood draw. He was later booked into the Potter County Jail. Both vehicles were also towed from the scene.
