18-Year-Old Arrested, Charged with Intoxicated Assault

An 18-year-old has been charged with intoxicated assault following a wreck that took place on Monday.

Amarillo Police report that officers were sent to the 5100 block of South Coulter on a traffic collision, Monday morning. Officers say that Kaleb Collins, 21, and Brenton Jones, 20, were walking northbound in the 5100 block of South Coulter.  They were on a sidewalk on the east side of the roadway.  Kimberlee Soltero, 23, was driving northbound in a 2015 Nissan Altima.  She had a passenger, Melissa Montanez, 23. Soltero pulled alongside Collins and Jones and offered them a ride. Soltero put her flashers on as she noticed a car in her review mirror that appeared to be traveling fast.

A 2007 Pontiac G6 was northbound at a high rate of speed. Brandon Ware, 18, was driving the vehicle. Jaelin Ford, 18, was a passenger in the Pontiac with Ware.

Ware struck the back of the Nissan and Collins.

Collins was taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. Ware and Ford were also taken to a local area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Soltero, Montanez, and Jones were uninjured.

Speed and alcohol are factors in this collision. Ware was booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of Intoxicated Assault with Serious Bodily Injury.
