APD Reports 36 Percent Increase in Homicides

The Amarillo Police Department says that Amarillo saw a 36 percent increase in homicides in 2017.

According to numbers released on Monday, APD says that Amarillo saw an increase in homicides while the overall percentage of violent crimes decreased. APD says that homicide numbers in Amarillo are up, in addition to rape reports, aggravated assaults, stolen vehicles and arson cases. The number of larceny, burglaries and robberies are down.

In 2017, Amarillo Police say 15 homicides were reported. That number was up from 11 percent in 2016. Based on total population, there were 7.5 homicides in Amarillo for every 100,000 people during the previous year.
