A 16-year-old suspect is in custody after opening fire at a Central Texas high school on Monday.
It was reported on Monday that a 16-year-old suspect opened fire with a handgun at a high school in Italy, Texas. Italy mayor Jackie Cate released a statement saying that within minutes of opening fire, the suspect was apprehended. One 15-year-old student was injured in the shooting and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Mayor Cate said that Italy officials are now working with the community to address any concerns and to provide support for those affected.
"Our City is grateful for the immediate law-enforcement response and the response from within the community," Cate said. "As we go forward in this difficult time, please know that the City of Italy is here to support our community in any way possible."
