The Amarillo City Council will consider voting to eliminate two positions at the Amarillo Police Department during Tuesday night's meeting.
According to an agenda posted for the meeting, the City Council will consider a resolution that will eliminate two positions at the Amarillo Police Department. An agenda attached to the City Council agenda says that the two positions, crime scene technician and digital media specialist, do not require a license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Therefore, the duties of the two positions can be performed by non-sworn personnel at APD. If approved, the City Council would authorize Chief Ed Drain to remove two officers from those duties.
Also during the meeting, the City Council will consider approving a deal allowing Amarillo College use of the NexGen Radio system. Members of the Beautification and Public Arts Advisory Board will also be appointed.
The meeting begins at 5pm on Tuesday, January 30th at Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue).
