Fire Department Fights Boulevard Grass Fire

The Amarillo Fire Department fought a grass fire near Amarillo Boulevard on Tuesday night.

According to the Amarillo Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 8:13pm on Tuesday night to a grass fire near Amarillo Boulevard and Eastern Street. The grass fire was growing and moving northeast. Additional units were called an eventually Potter County's Fire Department and other City staff were on hand to assist.

Crews slowed the progress of the fire and called it 90 percent contained by 9:45pm. The fire break caused by the BNSF train tracks slowed the northern spread of the fire and City crews began cutting fire breaks around the perimeter.

AFD says the fire was 100 percent contained at 11:34pm.

An estimated 150 acres burned during the blaze. A cause has yet to be determined. However, officials say the fire started approximately 1/4 mile south of Amarillo Blvd on the east side of Eastern Street.

No structures were lost and no injuries have been reported, at this time.
