A man was arrested on Thursday morning after escaping from an Amarillo hospital.

On Thursday, Amarillo Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Coulter on the report of a man who had left a hospital. Zane Dixon, 25, had previously been arrested by DPS authorities and was at a local hospital being medically cleared. Dixon escaped custody and fled toward Southwest 9th Avenue. Dixon went to a construction site in the area of Quail Creek Drive and allegedly stole a pickup truck.

Authorities spotted the struck at Interstate 40 and Coulter and Dixon fled from officers. APD officers located the truck unoccupied in a parking lot in the 7000 block Interstate 40 West and observed Dixon running into a motel. Dixon ran through the motel from the east and exited the door to the west. He went into a neighboring motel and then exited south into a neighborhood. Officers located an open door in the 7100 block of Adirondack. Dixon was located in the back yard of the residence and was taken into custody.

Dixon was returned to the hospital and placed into the custody of DPS.
