Scammers Targeting Potter County Residents

A scam artist is continuing to target residents of Potter County, according to information released by the County Sheriff.

On Thursday, officials reported that the Potter County Sheriff's Office has received information that an unknown person or persons have been calling Potter County residents and claiming that they are with the Sheriff's Office. The caller then tells the person on the phone that they failed to show for a jury summons and a warrant has been issue for their arrest. The victim is then instructed to give the caller their full name, address and date of birth. Victims are then told to purchase a Green Dot or money card to be used as payment to release the warrant.

Residents are being reminded that this is a scam and that the Potter County Sheriff's Office will never ask for a payment over the phone.

Officials say that the scammers are calling from the numbers 806-370-5136 or 806-318-4119.

Anyone who receives such a phone call is asked to call the Potter County Sheriff's Office at 806-379-2900.
