Amarillo Police are investigating two different motorcycle wrecks that occurred in Amarillo over the weekend.
According to APD, the first wreck occurred at 4:57pm on Saturday. Thomas King, Jr., 49, had been eastbound on Northwest 24th Avenue at a high rate of speed on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. King struck a 2007 Saturn four-door that was driven by a 27-year-old female. After hitting the Saturn, King lost control of the bike and hit a retaining wall. He was pronounced dead on scene. King was wearing a helmet.
Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones ordered an autopsy. Speed is believed to be a factor in this accident and it is currently under investigation by the Traffic Investigation Squad of APD.
The second wreck occurred near Bell Street and Puckett Drive at 7:26pm on Saturday. Officers say that Gary Price, 55, was driving his 1985 Honda motorcycle north on Bell. A 2010 Ford SUV driven by a 58-year-old female was stopped facing northbound on Bell in the turn lane to make a left turn onto Puckett Drive. Price attempted to pass the Ford on the left by going into oncoming traffic but struck the Ford.
Price was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Price was not wearing a helmet. Speed is believed to be a factor in this collision.
This incident is also under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Unit.
