Amarillo Fire Department Conducting Hydrant Maintenance

The Amarillo Fire Department has begun conducting maintenance on fire hydrants throughout the city.

According to information released by the Fire Department, officials are currently conducting maintenance on fire hydrants throughout Amarillo. Among the maintenance operations being conducted, crews are lubricating moving parts and are flushing water through the hydrants. Water pressures are also being tested.

Officials say that the maintenance will ensure that hydrants are operational for Amarillo Fire Department use, improve water quality and ensure that the hydrants conform to state and federal guidelines.

When crews are in your neighborhood, you may experience some discoloration in your water. This discoloration is likely caused by small particles of sediment and, if so, is not harmful. Residents are advised to fully open their cold water faucets for several minutes to allow the discoloration to be flushed through. If the discoloration does not disappear, please call the Amarillo Fire Department at 806-378-6824.

Maintenance is expected to be completed by April 6th.
