Local Movie Theater to Show 'Selena'

This weekend, one local movie theater is planning to show the classic 1990's music film, "Selena."

On Saturday, March 31st, the Premiere Cinema Westgate Mall movie theater will host two showings of "Selena." Sponsored by Westgate Mall and Wild 104.3 FM, the film is being screened to honor musician Selena Quintanilla-Pérez on the 23rd anniversary of her death.

"Selena" is a 1997 film, directed by Gregory Nava and starring Jennifer Lopez in her breakout role as the namesake character in the film. The film tells the true story of the life and career of musician Selena and her murder. Upon the film's release, it was met with critical acclaim, with Lopez being nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance. The film was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Soundtrack.

Showings of the film will take place 7:10pm and 9:45pm on Saturday. Wild 104.3 personality Tommy the Hacker will be conducting a live broadcast from the theater and a Selena lookalike contest will be held. A special performance will also be held at 6pm.
