Empty Bowls 2018 Dinner Will be Held Tonight

An Empty Bowls fundraiser dinner will be hosted tonight, April 12th.

Tonight, a Empty Bowls fundraiser dinner will be held to benefit Amarillo Brown Bag Runs and Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless. The evening's dinner will be hosted as St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

One participant says that she is excited for the event because it will help create positive energy in the community.

"I believe the creativity and generosity that goes into making the bowls and delicious food translates into energy that serves the community in a positive way," said Cyn Palmer, an Amarillo potter artist. "Empty Bowls is a perfect visualization of how we, as a species, can utilize our talents to take care of one another."

According to a release, Empty Bowls was started by a high school teacher in 1990 to help feed needy community members. Empty Bowls has since grown into a cultural phenomenon that serves millions of organizations.

Attendance costs $15 and the donor gets to keep his or her choice in dish, which were made by Amarillo Independent School District and West Texas A&M University students. The meal will consist of a soup, dessert, and tea. A silent auction will also be held and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the community organizations. The fundraising goal is $7,500.

The dinner will take place from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
