APD Memorial Day Enforcement Continues

"The Amarillo Police Department has received a STEP grant (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) from the Texas Department of Transportation to put more officers on the streets over the holiday weekend. We will join law enforcement agencies across the state during the Memorial Day Weekend to help keep Texas roadways safe. From Friday May 25th through Monday May 28th, extra officers will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers, drivers violating the speed limit, anyone failing to wear a seatbelt, and other traffic laws.

So far in 2018 we have had 12 fatal accidents which have claimed the lives of 13 people. The Amarillo Police Department is going to do our part over this weekend to make sure that number does not go up.

There are several things that drivers can do to make sure they are safe on the roads this Memorial Day Weekend:

  • Don't Drink and Drive

  • Drive the speed limit

  • Make everyone in the vehicle wear a seatbelt.

  • Don't drive fatigued

  • Eliminate distractions while driving

  • Drive Defensively

The Amarillo Police Department hopes that everyone has a safe Memorial Day Weekend."
