Amarillo Rumored as Possible Location for Double-A Twins Relocation

A new report from a Minnesota newspaper has Amarillo listed as one of two options for the Minnesota Twins’ organization’s Double-A relocation.

According to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Twins organization’s Double-A affiliate is looking to leave Chattanooga, Tennessee, after winning a pair of titles during four years in the south. Amarillo is being looked at as one possible location, the newspaper reports. Another possible location for the move is Pensacola, Florida. The move to Amarillo would bring the Twins to the Texas League for minor league baseball.

Amarillo is expected to get a Double-A team for the upcoming baseball season, as the City is in the middle of construction on a multi-million dollar sports field to accommodate a team. Voters approved building a $32 million minor league stadium in Amarillo in 2015, but the price was increased sharply on the structure in 2017, as City Councilmembers signed a deal with the Elmore Sports Group to bring baseball to downtown Amarillo.

The first game at Amarillo’s new stadium is expected to be played in April.
