Hays Seeking Re-Election to Amarillo City Council

Councilwoman Elaine Hays is back in the race for the Amarillo City Council.

Hays, a financial planner, announced on Friday morning that she would seek re-election to the Amarillo City Council. The announcement came in the form of a press release, with Hays touting her support of the City of Amarillo’s “Buy the Way” campaign and more. Her announcement comes amid weeks of speculation on whether she would run again, due to her failure to attend several community meetings, and her silence on her re-election plans.

In 2017, Hays won her first term on the City Council, ousting then-incumbent Elisha Demerson. Before that, Hays mounted an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Congressional seat held by Mac Thornberry.

Hayden Pedigo, a local viral video star, has announced his intention to challenge Hays in the May 4th municipal elections. Candidate filings will continue through February 15th.
