BNSF Railroad Company conductor Vance Snider is many things - a husband, a U.S. Army veteran, an Amarillo College alum - but in 2020, he’s taking on a new role: congressional contender.
Snider is one of a handful of Republicans who have launched a bid for the Texas 13th Congressional District seat in 2020, hoping to replace U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry, who is retiring after 25 years of service. If elected, Snider would be just the third Republican to represent the district since its creation in 1893, but the political newcomer says he believes he has what it takes to get the job done.
“When Thornberry gave up his seat, I felt it would be a great opportunity,” Snider said. “I’m tired of people going to Washington and not serving the people. I’m just tired of all the crap.”
The fact that Snider is facing a field of elected officials, politicians, and government officials is also not deterring the Dumas native, as he knows what sets him apart from the pack of hopefuls.
“It’s what sets me apart from the other candidates,” Snider said. “My hands are rough, my boots are dirty, and I’m not a career politician.”
Along with Snider, Monique Worthy and Josh Winegarner are also seeking the Republican nomination for the seat. Democrat Greg Sagan is running unopposed in his primary.
