Randall County Sheriff Joel W. Richardson is not running for re-election in 2020.

Richardson made the announcement on social media on Monday, announcing that he will be retiring from the job next year. Richardson did endorse a candidate as his replacement, however, saying that he is supporting Chris Forbis to take his place, noting that he will serve as Forbis’ campaign treasurer in 2020.

As of Monday at 4PM, no candidates are listed as filed for the seat with the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.

Richardson’s Amarillo-area counterpart, Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas, is running for re-election.

The primary election will be held on March 3, 2020.
