The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners will live on another day after Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Wednesday to save the agency.
According to the Governor’s Office, Abbott signed an executive order extending the life of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners through May 2021, citing rebuilding efforts as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Abbott’s order cited Senate Bill 285, which stated, “[n]otwithstanding any other law, the governor may, by executive order, take any action necessary to ensure each state agency . . . is able to respond to a hurricane” in his move to save the agency.
Abbott’s move comes following concerns about the potential expiration of the agency after legislators failed to approve legislation to extend the life of the department. The Governor had previously promised to save the agency before the executive order was issued.
