Those who want to help make a difference in addressing the homeless issue in Amarillo have an opportunity.
The second “Point in Time Count” (PIT Count) for Amarillo is scheduled for Friday (July 26.) The PIT Count, conducted by the City of Amarillo Community Development/Continuum of Care, consists of individuals going around the city during a 24-hour period to count the homeless population and conduct a survey. The first PIT Count was in January.
The PIT Count is conducted by volunteers from the City of Amarillo, local non-profit organizations and the community – and volunteers are needed. Training sessions are available Tuesday (July 23) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday (July 25) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Guyon Saunders Resource Center, 200 S. Tyler St.
The PIT Count helps provide agencies with valuable information to help address the needs of the homeless population, in addition to funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
