State Rep. John Zerwas (R-Richmond) has accepted a new role with the University of Texas System.
Zerwas, who announced his retirement from the Texas House this week, was named the new executive vice chancellor for the University of Texas System on Thursday. In this role, Zerwas will oversee six University of Texas health institutions when he officially retires from the House on September 30th.
Before announcing his retirement, Zerwas served as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and also launched an unsuccessful bid to succeed former House Speaker Joe Straus last year.
Zerwas’ appointment is effective October 1st, according to the Texas Tribune.
