Republican U.S. House candidate Monique Worthy addressed President Donald Trump’s son, Eric, in a statement released this weekend.

After Eric Trump tweeted a supportive message to House candidate Ronny Jackson, Worthy sounded off, encouraging Trump to look at the whole field of candidates before endorsing a particular contender to replace U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon).

“Don't think that just because the Democrats have wronged someone you support, that they will in turn support you, once elected,” Worthy said, noting that 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has often been a critic of President Trump since being elected to the U.S. Senate.

Worthy’s comments refer to criticism faced by Jackson after he was nominated by President Trump in 2018 to replace David Shulkin as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Jackson later withdrew his nomination.

Worthy also mentioned her support for President Trump and his agenda, saying “I am the only REAL Trump-supporting candidate in this race.”

Worthy and Jackson are two of the 15 Republican candidates running to replace Thornberry in 2020. Voters will decide this primary on March 3.
