Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn is retaining his lead over Democrat Mary “MJ” Hegar in a brand new poll released on Thursday.
The new poll from Morning Consult shows Cornyn leading Hegar by five points, 46-41%. The margin on error on the poll is +/- 1.7%, putting Cornyn well past the margin with his lead. Libertarian Kerry Douglas McKennon and Green David B. Collins were not featured in the poll results.
Thursday’s poll follows a series of other polls showing similar leads for Cornyn over Hegar. Cornyn was last elected to his seat in 2014, winning 62% of the vote against Democrat David Alameel and other challengers. In that race, Cornyn received no less than 77% of the vote between both counties in Amarillo.
Early voting in this contest runs until October 30. Election Day is November 3.
