In the District 30 Texas Senate special election, Gov. Greg Abbott has endorsed State Rep. Drew Springer in this month’s runoff election.
Abbott announced his support for Springer in a video released this week, as the race ahead of the December 19th runoff begins to heat up. Springer is facing salon owner Shelley Luther, who has been a critic of Abbott, in the race to replace State Sen. Pat Fallon.
Luther responded to the endorsement in a Facebook post, saying the endorsement signals that she is the “authentic conservative” in the race.
“The entire Austin Swamp knows I can't be bought. They know I will serve Senate District 30 without any strings attached, and it terrifies them,” Luther said.
Early voting in the race begins December 9th.
