The Republican runoff in the U.S. House, District 13 race has been postponed until July, according to an order by Gov. Greg Abbott.
On Saturday, Abbott announced his decision to postpone state runoffs from their original May 26 date until July 14. Republicans will not face any statewide races on the runoff ballot, but several district-wide and local contests have been affected across Texas, including the hotly contested primary runoff between Josh Winegarner and Dr. Ronny Jackson for the congressional seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon).
In addition, this change also pushes back the Democratic runoff for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican John Cornyn. Democrats will choose either former congressional candidate MJ Hegar or State Sen. Royce West to face Cornyn in November.
As for the congressional race, the winner of the July runoff will likely face Democrat Gus Trujillo and Libertarian Jack B. Westbrook in November.
Early voting for the new runoff date will begin on July 6.
