Jason Foglesong and Tom Scherlen filed their applications to appear on the May 1, 2021 Amarillo City Council election ballot on Thursday.

Foglesong, a local public educator and former Republican precinct chair in Potter County, filed his application to challenge Place 2 City Councilwoman Freda Powell. Foglesong is the first candidate to file in the race to oppose Powell, who has also filed her application for the ballot.

Scherlen filed his application to take on Place 3 Amarillo City Council incumbent Eddy Sauer. Scherlen, former CEO of Austin Hose, is taking on Sauer on a platform of fiscal responsibility and community access to local government.
