Public educator Jason Foglesong is the newest candidate for Amarillo City Council, Place 2.
On Tuesday, Foglesong announced his campaign, with a pledge to bring conservatism back to City Hall. Foglesong says he is running because he wants to provide taxpayers a new voice on the City Council.
“The people of Amarillo deserve better,” Foglesong said. “They deserve to have their voices heard in these stressful times. Amarillo and the people who make this city great represent so much more than just downtown.”
Among the issues Foglesong will be tackling in his campaign are citizen access to government and increasing accessibility and transparency at City Hall. Foglesong also says he plans to “stop wasteful spending, as well as neglect of taxpayers’ resources.”
Foglesong is also a former precinct chair for the Potter County Republican Party.
Foglesong is seeking the seat currently held by incumbent Freda Powell on the City Council. Powell is seeking re-election. In addition to Powell and Foglesong, Amarillo College administrative assistant Joe West is also running.
Filing for the ballot begins on January 13. Election Day is May 1.
