Amarillo resident Jolene Santiago is set to seek the Place 3 on the Amarillo City Council this May.
Santiago announced her campaign over the weekend, along with the roll out of her campaign website. Santiago says she plans to support the “power of the people,” saying that she will not vote for items that infringe on citizens' individual liberties.
“We are not a ruled people by kings and queens and we do not let the government make decisions for us,” Santiago said. “I would never create an ordinance that violates the freedoms of individuals.”
According to her website, Santiago earned her cosmetology license from the Milan Institute in 2011, and also studied mass communications and legal studies at Amarillo College. Santiago is also a member of Accelerate Church in Amarillo.
Santiago is seeking the seat currently held by Amarillo Matters-backed incumbent Eddy Sauer. Former Austin Hose CEO Tom Scherlen is also seeking the seat.
Filing for the ballot begins January 13, and Election Day is May 1.
