Former local congressional candidate Chris Ekstrom has been selected to lead the effort to fight for term limits in Texas.

This week, Ekstrom was named chairman of Texas for Congressional Term Limits, the Texas branch of U.S. Term Limits, an organization that advocates for term limits for members of Congress. Ekstrom said in a statement that he believes now is the time for term limits in Washington.

“I am a firm believer in term limits for Congress,” Ekstrom said. “Our founding fathers never intended for a class of career politicians who focus more on re-election than policy. With 95 percent of incumbents getting re-elected, new ideas and new voices are stifled. It is time to restore our founding father’s vision of a citizen legislature where people serve for a short time and then return back to their community.”

Ekstrom is a businessman who previously ran in the 2020 Republican primary for U.S. House District 13, which includes Amarillo. Ekstrom received 15 percent of the vote in the primary and later endorsed Ronny Jackson in the July runoff for the seat.
