State Rep. Jake Ellzey is headed to Washington to become the new U.S. Representative for Texas’ 6th Congressional District.
Ellzey, a native of Amarillo, won the special election runoff for the 6th Congressional District seat on Tuesday, winning the remainder of the unexpired term of U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, who passed away earlier this year. Ellzey defeated Wright’s widow, Susan Wright, to claim the seat, with 53 percent of the vote. Both Ellzey and Wright were on the ballot as Republicans.
With Ellzey’s victory, the Republican Party will hold the seat heading into the 2022 general election cycle. Ron Wright won re-election to the seat in 2020 with 53 percent of the vote over his Democratic and Libertarian opponents.
