Texas Republican Party chairman Allen West received welcoming messages from two of his Republican primary rivals in the race for Governor on Sunday.
After West announced his campaign for Governor through a campaign video, former State Sen. Don Huffines and comedian Chad Prarther both issued statements welcoming the former Florida Congressman and party chairman to the race. In Huffines’ statement, he welcomed West to the contest and said he looks forward to the field of candidates making their contrasts with incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott clear to primary voters.
“I want to welcome Allen West to the race for Texas Governor,” Huffines said. “I look forward to Allen joining our efforts to make clear that Texans can do better than Greg Abbott. The open Texas border, skyrocketing property taxes, and leftward cultural shift occurring in our state must end—and it all starts with strong leadership.”
Meanwhile, Prather congratulated West on his campaign and called on the new candidate to join him in condemning Abbott on several policy issues.
“I hope that Allen joins me in condemning the Governor Greg Abbott for failing to prioritize laws that would prohibit sadistic physical and chemical sex reassignment procedures on children," Prather said. "While I’m at it, corporations should be prohibited from mandating COVID passports.”
The Republican primary for Governor is expected to be held in early-to-mid 2022.
