Potter County Commissioner John Coffee will be seeking re-election in 2024.

On Wednesday, Coffee announced that he will be a candidate for Potter County Commissioner in Precinct 3 again in 2024. Coffee, a retired deputy sheriff, was first elected to his position in 2020, defeating three opponents in the race to replace Commissioner Leon Church.

In his announcement, Coffee touted his county leadership experience and his successes from his first term, like repairing flood damaged roads in Valle De Oro, increasing pay for county firefighters, and hiring a CPS attorney for the county. If elected to another term in office, Coffee said he will be, “committed to the growth and vitality of this county and its communities.”

Coffee represents Precinct 3, which covers most of the rural areas of the county, including Bushland, Valle De Oro, River Road, and Amarillo’s Westcliff neighborhood.

Thus far, Coffee has not drawn an opponent for re-election. Candidate filing will begin next month. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
