Texas’ largest Republican county has a new party chairman.

On Monday, precinct chairs elected businessman Bo French to be the next Tarrant County Republican Chairman. French defeated attorney Warren Norred and businessman Fred Tate to win the position. According to reporting by The Texan, French received 94 votes, followed by Norred at 72 votes and Tate at 57 votes. In a second round of voting, Tate withdrew and French won a majority, 118 votes to 104 votes.

French, who previously ran for the Texas House of Representatives against Rep. Charlie Geren in 2016 and 2018, will now replace Rick Barnes as county chairman. Barnes resigned from the position to challenge incumbent Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Wendy Burgess in the March 2024 Republican primary election.

With his election, French will serve as party chair through next year’s primary. He will be eligible to seek a full term as county chair in the 2024 primary election.
