The three judges seeking re-election to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 2024 will all face challengers in the Republican primary election.

According to the Republican Party of Texas, three candidates filed for the ballot on Saturday, seeking the three seats up for the grabs on Texas’ highest criminal court. The candidates — David J. Schenck, Gina Parker, and Lee Finley — are seeking seats one, seven, and eight on the court, respectively.

Schenck, an experienced appellate judge who narrowly lost a competitive primary race for a seat on the Texas Supreme Court in 2022, is challenging incumbent Sharon Keller. Parker, who also ran for a seat on the court in 2020, will challenge incumbent Barbara Hervey. Meanwhile, Finley, a Collin County attorney, will challenge incumbent Michelle Slaughter.

As of this writing, no Democrats have declared for any of the three seats on the court.

The primary elections will be decided on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
