Potter Constable Jackson Files for Re-Election

An incumbent constable has filed to seek re-election in Potter County.

According to ballot filings reported to the Texas Secretary of State, Constable Idella Jackson has filed to seek re-election in 2024. Jackson will be seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination in her campaign for will be her fourth term in office.

Jackson represents Precinct 4 as Potter County Constable, which includes much of North Amarillo and portions of the Downtown and San Jacinto neighborhoods. Most recently re-elected in 2020, Jackson defeated Republican challenger Kerry Haney to claim a third term on the job.

According to the Texas Association of Counties, a constable is a licensed peace officer who performs various law enforcement functions. One of the primary responsibilities of the constable is to serve warrants and civil papers, as well as to serve as bailiff for the precinct’s justice of the peace court.

Candidate filing will continue through December 11. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
